 JoJo is a Blue and Gold Macaw (sometimes called Blue & Yellow Macaws). When JoJo first came to us, we were told that JoJo was a male. It wasn't long before we found JoJo wanting to nest and lay eggs. It was a miracle! JoJo is about 30 inches long and weighs almost 3 lbs. The Blue and Gold macaws are one of the largest parrots in the world and extremely attractive in appearance with blue wings, a yellowish-gold front and green forhead.
JoJo loves to eat nuts! The harder the shell, the better. Some have said that macaws have an 800 lb crush strength with their beaks. We became friends really quick!
When JoJo first came to us, he/she had that "crumpled" look - missing feathers, looking like he/she had been through the war. It wasn't long, after having plenty of room to exercise and a steady diet of the right types of food, that JoJo went from the "ugly duckling" into a "beautiful swan" macaw!
JoJo's favorite food is a peanut butter (crunchy only) and jelly sandwich on toast! It's a treat JoJo gets once in a great while. After first bite, JoJo always settles back and says, "Hello! Good stuff!"
